Riversongs Festival 2018 Hive Performances

June 19th – 22nd

The third annual Riversongs Festival (June 16 – 23, 2018) will feature Hive performances all week long!

Come join the creative space and support our artistic community!

The Hive is held at Canadore College in the student lounge. It’s a beautiful spot to compose and share your creations. Come and join us!

Why a Hive? Canadore College makes its very own honey from it’s very own apiary. Hives are magical things – they interconnect, nourish, provide shelter….we have much to learn from bees. Our Coffee Houses are a bit like a hive…
Did you know the ancient Minoans worshiped the bee? They structured their lives and villages with interlocking cells. They built “hives” for their mead out of stones with no mortar. Many of these small round structures have survived for thousands of years, withstood storms and earth quakes – all because of what the Minoans learned about architecture and art from the bee!

4 pm – Poetry/writers circle, Kat Fretwell, facilitator. This is a creating circle – bring a pen and paper, or your iPad, and we will get you writing! Great writing exercises, and lots of fun – you may read poems at the coffee house later if you wish.

5:30 pm- Music Makers Circle , Brenda Margaret Muller, facilitator. This is a chance for musicians to put our newly created poetry to words for performance later in the evening

7:30 pm – Coffee House begins! Musicians are encouraged to play their own original material whenever possible. Poetry readings are welcome!

First coffee house of the year, awesome !
